Dear NJOD Colleague,

Please join us!

  Managing Conflict from Center

 Led by:

Andrew Cohn

Wednesday, April 16, 2014, 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Ramada Plaza Hotel, Newark, NJ

About the Workshop:

This program will help us develop our ability to manage conflict more effectively- less reactively and more purposefully. We will use the Japanese martial art of Aikido and other materials as tools for:

  • Recognizing how we react to conflictkarate-fist.jpg
  • Shifting from resistance to cooperation
  • Connecting to our “center” as we move through conflict
  • Physically changing our point of view
  • Distinguishing force from power

In addition to some front-of-the-room teaching and large group discussions, we will work in small groups and individual reflection. This program will involve movement, so come prepared to be in contact with people as we learn together as a community.

What participants will learn:

  • The physical difference between “force” and “power”
  • How to take care of ourselves while in the midst of conflict
  • How to shift from being stuck in resistance to a position of cooperation
  • The impact of centering on our ability to manage conflict
  • Some basics of Aikido, the Japanese martial art
